Violence and Moral High Ground

Violence is not good and must be condemned in all its forms!! Several people in Zimbabwe are falling on top of each other to condemn violence they attribute to government on members of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change and in the process claim moral high ground. Anyone who does not condemn the government is treated with disgust – not to suggest that government should not be condemned where it perpetrates unnecessary violence.
However, the very same people do not condemn the violence that has been attributed to the MDC. While the MDC has denied involvement and I give it the benefit of doubt, we have not heard it condemn this violence they are associated with. As a self proclaimed peaceful party it is under obligation to do so.
Noticeably, the people who have condemned violence attributed to government have, like the MDC, not condemned the violence attributed to this party. Now this leaves an impression that violence emanating from the opposition is acceptable. Unfortunately, as long as we do not criticise the MDC on its silence on violence, and these high moral ground characters continue practicing double standards, the violence in Zimbabwe would be systematically left to escalate to perpetuate the political crisis. But this violence hurts the ordinary people. Have the ordinary people not already had enough suffering?

Let us all desist from engaging in Violence!!!!
