Natives should benefit from their natural resources. These are not renewable and if they do not benefit from them now, they will not be able to do so in future. Foreign mining companies should be ready to share with the locals otherwise they can move on. All African countries should take this stance. It’s better for our people to suffer with the natural resources still in their hands as opposed to some foreign mining companies owning and enjoying the benefits of our natural resources.

I totally agree with the idea of nationalisation of resources. So far Zanu PF has been hinting at nationalisation. The opposition however, do not seem to have a solid stance regarding land and resources. Nationalisation makes it possible for the ordinary citizen to bennefit from our resources.
So, you guys are saying politicians and their cronies should be runing the show regardless of their competences?
We did not say that. We say the state, on behalf of the people, control the resources and parcel them out in a transparent and fair manner, which most people will find tolerable.
Why do people think that state is synonymous with cronyism and private sector to efficiency? If the government does not do that then we can discipline them and even take away the control fo the resources. Now with the private sector, once you sell (privatise) you have to buy back...it will cost huge amounts of money.
Multi-national companies who have been eploiting Zimbabwe's resources have not been too keen to invest their profits in our country and we have lost out in that respect. We need new deals which ensure that locals also bennefit. Look at Nigeria. All their oil belongs to Shell and fuel queues are common in an oil producing country.
Couldn't agree with you more Nelson. For how long should we be exploited? We have been told that it would be good for us. But also, how competent are we in terms of negotiating these deals with these multinationals? Or how clean are we when making these deals? We should not ignore such facts. The Nhara case - which is a tip of the iceberg should alert us to the hidden dirt. But on the whole I agree with you that we need to control our resources by whatever means.
