Sudanese Ambassador explains agreement on AU/UN hybrid force

This week on African Perspective

This Tuesday 19th June we discuss with the Ambassador of Sudan to Canada Dr. Faiza Hassan Taha on that country’s efforts to deal with the challenges facing Sudan. She explains the position of Sudan on the recent agreement accepting the deployment of United Nations and African Union peacekeepers into that country. The agreement includes an “exit strategy”: at what juncture will the UN and AU forces going to leave Sudan? The United States’ Ambassador to the UN Zalmay Khalilzad is reported “casting new doubts on the deal, [saying] it was unclear if Sudan had definitely agreed to non-African troops”. Is US’s skepticism justified? Are we observing positive developments in Sudan?
