This week on African Perspective

Federal opposition parties on Canadian foreign policy and Africa

Minister for International Cooperation Josée Verner not reachable despite attempts

This Tuesday the 24th of July we discuss with immediate past leader of the federal New Democratic Party and current International development critic Alex McDonough and Liberal Party's Canadian International Development Agency critic Mark Eyking on the implications of Canada's foreign policy shift towards the Americas. How will this focus affect Canada's relations with Africa considering that there are criticisms already that Canada is not fully committed to meeting its international development assistance obligations towards Africa? Canada has scaled down its commitment towards development assistance to Africa by about 25 percent. Will Prime Minister Harper's agenda of prioritising relations with the Latin American countries cause further marginalisation of African countries?

This is a quote from Kofi Annan that made me immediately think of you.

"Africans must guard against a pernicious, self-destructive form of racism - that unites citizens to rise up and expel tyrannical rulers who are white, but to excuse tyrannical rulers who are black."

This issue describes you to your core. You are more than willing to bring the tough questions to Canada about why they are not living up to their promises to Africa with regards to aid but you refuse to be as tough on black leadership in Zimbabwe.

I only hope that before you get offended and reply with an emotional tirade that you sit back and examine this quote and your own stance and come up with a sane reason at to why you agree or disagree.
