This Week on African Perspective
This Tuesday the 10th of July we discuss with the Head, Policy and Strategic Planning, Southern African Development Community Secretariat and a member of the Formative Process Research on Integration in Southern Africa (FOPRISA) Steering Committee Professor Angelo Mondlane. Prof. Mondlane discusses the progress SADC is recording in its integration project. We seek to find out whether SADC is on track to meet the target they set to form an integrated economic zone? The Trade Protocol on Trade Cooperation which came into force in 2000 aims to reduce trade barriers among member countries and moving the region toward a free trade area. Participating countries agreed to phase out tariffs on 85 percent of intra-SADC trade by 2008, and sensitive products would be liberalized by 2012.
More interesting, is what would be SADC's position in the envisaged Union Government of the United States of Africa?
